Microbiota for the Soul: A new perspective on living in Mallorca, not just visiting.
Why belonging is your best investment.
At fourteen, I traded the Mediterranean for the plains of Ohio. It was my first real experience of displacement. Looking back—from a career in consulting and an academic background in Tourism and Service Engineering—it was the most important investment of my life. Since then, crossing borders has been my natural state.
I have built a life and a career around the globe, but traveling taught me a lesson that no business school ever could: diversity of experience is the "microbiota" of the soul.
In nutrition, we know that the more diverse the inputs, the healthier the system. The same happens with the "self." Every culture, every conversation, and every landscape we truly inhabit adds a new strain of resilience and perspective to our internal health. We call it the microbiota of the soul. But there is a condition for this "fermentation" to occur: it needs time.
The Challenge of the Surface
During my journey around the world, I witnessed the other side of the coin. In truly spectacular places, I saw endless lines of people waiting just to take a selfie. It is a sharp contrast: the immensity of nature versus the urgency of a photo.
As a Mallorcan, I perfectly understand why the world has its eyes on our islands. If I weren't from here, I would also want to feel this sea and this light. The problem isn't the desire to come; it’s how we have planned it. It is pure mathematics: a small beach cannot hold a thousand people without losing the magic that brought them there in the first place.
Laberint emerges as a response to this reality that surrounds us. It is a shift in focus: from the massive to the intimate, from the accelerated to the organic.
The Bridge to the Authentic
Through my travels, I learned that what makes a place special is the connection with the local. If I were in Japan, I would need a Japanese person to open the doors to their culture, to explain how life is truly lived there. Without that "key," I would remain on the surface of the postcard.
As a Mallorcan, I love welcoming friends I’ve made throughout my global experiences and showing them my home from the inside. Not from the saturation, but from those moments that stay with you: a swim in healing crystalline waters, a summer dinner with sun-warmed skin at the end of the day, sharing a table with local products...
Living, Not Visiting
We don’t seek to offer an organized trip or a simple room. We seek to offer belonging. We want that, after a "Laberint experience," something in you has changed. We want you to feel that you haven't just visited an island, but that you have lived it, felt it as your own, and been part of it with a deep respect for its balance.
It is an intimate proposal, "slow-cooked." We believe that for a community to be sustainable, it must grow organically.
The Rhythm of Exchange
For this integration to be real and the cultural exchange to be profound, our ideal is the long-stay. It is the time that allows the place to permeate through you, moving you from being a spectator to a participant. Still, our doors are open starting from one month for those who want to begin testing this rhythm, knowing that respect for the place and the community is our common denominator.
Laberint is a space for entrepreneurs and professionals seeking a center from which to operate, but also from which to feel. Will you join us in co-creating it?
